About Kalynn

kalynnI, Kalynn Amadio, being of sound mind and occasionally sound body, claim to be a renaissance woman which is a kind way of saying I starts lots of things but never master any. Regardless, I obtained a B.S. in Architectural Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1987. I have worked as an electrical engineer for various firms in New York City and had the privilege of working on the World Trade Center, Rockefeller Center and the Baseball Hall of Fame to name just a few landmarks. Today, professionally, I work as a Senior Lighting Designer on very high end residential and corporate businesses in and around the New York City area with the occasional jaunt west of the Continental Divide.

In addition to raising three sons and a husband (no that was not a verbal mistake) I am a 3rd dan (degree) black belt in the Korean martial art of tae kwon do or taekwondo as you prefer. I visited South Korea in the summer of 2008 as part of the US delegation to the World Taekwondo Culture Expo where I competed in the ‘almost old’ ladies division and won a 2nd place medal in forms, losing out to a good friend and fellow 3rd degree black belt from my school in Westchester County where I study with Grandmaster B.M. Kim.

My passion has always been writing. And while nothing is stopping me from becoming a professional writer, I’ve never been brave enough to take that important step of relabeling myself. Rather than introduce myself as someone’s mother or wife, or as this firm or that firm’s professional so and so, or even the many times I’ve just been “Coach Amadio” or “Mrs. Amadio” when teaching little ones, I’ve never had the guts to say “I’m a writer.” Since the only publishing I have ever done is self-publishing in professional newsletters or now on the web it just doesn’t seem appropriate. I guess until I finally finish one of the many novels I’ve started and some editor somewhere in the land says, “Yes, we’d love to publish this.” I’ll continue to call writing a hobby.

My latest endeavor is courtesy of discovering that the internet is more than a tool for looking stuff up. I’ve realized that my love for the internet, writing and my penchant for design has led me directly to the one thing that allows me to combine them all. That’s right, I’ve started building my own websites. Even computer code is fun (computer programming being one of my favorite classes in college) so the whole thing seemed a natural progression.

I have built several websites and bought a few others. If you want to see what I’ve been up to on that front, feel free to visit the corporate site I’ve begun to develop at ikalynn.com. I am in the process of building that site as a WordPress blog (and don’t you just love WordPress as a platform?) where I can chronicle the internet development stage of my renaissance.

If you would like to contact me directly, feel free to email me at info@ikalynn.com.
