Public Speaking TipsPublic speaking may be a well-noted fear, but is also how smart Baby Boomers are growing their businesses.

A question I am often asked is, “Where do I find audiences?” That is a great question! It is actually far easier than you might think to find places to speak. Here are 3 simple public speaking tips to booking more speaking engagements immediately.

  • At networking events, instead of asking for business referrals, ask for speaking referrals. It is more comfortable for someone to give you a referral to the organizer of a group that brings in business speakers because the trust level required is lower.
  • Contact organizers and pitch your topic. Do not give up calling or emailing until you get a response from the organizer. They often have too many balls in the air and pinning down a speaker for every meeting can fall through the cracks. If you get a “no” as in “our schedule is full” ask when they set the calendar. Mark the date with some room to spare on your calendar and contact them again when the time is right.
  • Identify power networkers in your circle of friends and associates. Power networkers are the people who seem to know everybody. Contact them and say, “I’m looking for speaking engagements.” Ask for referrals to organizers and groups that bring in speakers and get moving.

There has never been a time in my career that a public speaking has not lead to new business or the opportunity for another speaking engagement. Speaking is the fastest path to cash.
